The Future of Work in Practice

By linking innovation to real business challenges, Länsförsäkringar AB engaged its trainees in hackathons exploring themes like AI and the green transition. Through facilitation, coaching, and collaboration, participants developed proof-of-concepts that strengthened both innovation capability and understanding of the organization’s future direction.

What was the challenge?

Länsförsäkringar is one of Sweden’s most recognized actors in banking and insurance, with strong local roots and a long tradition of customer-centered work. Länsförsäkringar AB, the federation’s support and development organization, has for several years carried out training and process initiatives within a trainee program in collaboration with Nexer Tech Talent, focusing on innovation, change capability, and the future of work.

What did we do?

Together with an internal project group, current business challenges were identified, scoped into clear themes, and formulated as assignments for a two-day hackathon. The challenges have included, among others, the green transition and AI.

How did we do it?

Trainees were organized into teams, received briefs from internal sponsors, and worked to develop solutions – supported by facilitation, coaching, and learning activities throughout the process.

What was the result?

As a conclusion, the participants pitched their ideas in the form of proof-of-concepts to a jury of managers and decision-makers from the organization. Several of the hackathon proposals have been recognized internally and taken further within the company.

“Hackathons have truly demonstrated the power that emerges when we bring together different perspectives and competences around our challenges. The primary aim has been to give our trainees an intensive introduction to innovation work, while also providing them with a deeper insight into the organization and helping them build their networks by working on real business problems. It has been inspiring to see how quickly participants have been able to develop concepts and prototypes, and how the learnings that emerged have soon after started to create value in several ways within the organization.”

What did we learn?

We learned that innovation thrives when new perspectives and real business challenges meet. By framing development as experimentation, we enabled trainees to contribute tangible value early on while strengthening their understanding of the organisation’s future direction.
